O2 Contracts

O2 just called me and wanted to check if I wanted to change my monthly phone set up, change rate and all that. I keep a fairly close eye on what I'm doing on my phone and make sure that I already am on the best rate, which they told me again, always nice to know I'm on top of things! But then the following happened:

I was offered to sign a new 18 month contract. I asked what I would get in return for this. Absolutely nothing. I told them I wouldn't sign another contract if there was no incentive to do so. By not signing a contract I can leave whenever I want and I still pay the same amount as if I had signed it. I mentioned this and I was told that about 50% of people will agree to a new contract. Don't do it people. You don't have to. It seemed to me however that the question is asked in a very specific manner, an implication forms part of the question that I should sign the contract.

I mentioned that if they wanted me to sign I would have to be offered a reason to do so, I received a curt response informing me that would be noted and then the call was over. I got the distinct impression I was irritating rather than a paying customer.

On the plus side it means I now know I am out of my contract; I am actively looking to change to another carrier.
